EXCLUSIVE: Future of Dubai lingerie expo in doubt

The future of a lingerie exhibition in Dubai has been called into question after event organisers disappeared off the radar and the suggested venue said the booking had been cancelled.

The news came to Lingerie Insight’s attention when two UK brands due to exhibit at the show came forward to complain that they had not been able to reach the show’s organisers after making final payments for their stands last month.

The LineExpo event is scheduled to take place on November 24-26 at the Radisson Blu Deira Creek Exhibition Centre, but when contacted by exhibitors, the venue said that LineExpo organisers cancelled their booking on September 15, after final payments were made.

In a telephone phone call with Lingerie Insight yesterday, the Radisson Blu confirmed that it “will not be holding any exhibitions this month”.

One exhibitor, who preferred to remain nameless, said it has been trying to contact LineExpo organisers since October 27, but without success.

“[Finance Director] Ahmad Al Sham and [sales and marketing coordinator] Nicklas Bergstom called and sent emails on 15th and 19th October 2015 for final payment. We transferred payment on 22nd October 2015,” the brand said.

“Since then, they have not been replying to emails or answering phone calls. The only person that answered their mobile number was [event director] Ersoy Aksoy. I spoke with Ersoy today (November 5). Ersoy said he stopped working for LinExpo three months ago.”

Aksoy confirmed that he had left the company when contacted by Lingerie Insight.

Lingerie Insight also called the show’s Dubai office without success. The event’s office in Turkey answered our call, but the line went dead after LineExpo was mentioned.

Curiously, LineExpo organisers were still requesting samples after they made their booking cancellation at the Radisson Blu.

“We have sent garment samples via UPS to the Yes Business Center, Suite 107, these samples arrived on 21st October 2015,” the exhibitor said.

A second exhibitor said: “We’re not sure what’s going on, we’ve paid for our stand, but, luckily, we have not paid for our flights and accommodation.

“We sent our samples through DHL, but we’ve managed to stop them from being delivered.”

LineExpo’s website was live last night, but was taken down by this morning.
