Corset makers could see a major uplift in sales this winter, if this season’s catwalk shows were anything to go by.

Fashion brands from Prada and Balmain to H&M and Jean Paul Gaultier indicated at their AW16 shows in Paris, Milan and New York that there will be a strong trend for layering corsets and waist-cinchers over outerwear later this year.

Celebrities including Carine Roitfeld, the former editor of Vogue Paris, and American DJ and model Leigh Lezark were also seen rocking this trend at the Givenchy and Christian Siriano catwalk shows this season.

Lingerie Insight believes this could trigger the second growth in corset sales in as many years.

The shape-shifting garment made a comeback last year, spurred on by the film release of Cinderella and A-list celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, who posted pictures of themselves wearing corsets on social media.

In March 2015, lingerie brand What Katie Did, renowned for selling steel-boned corsets, said it had seen sales grow by 50% in three months, while online retailer eBay boasted a 54% surge in modern corset sales since December 2014.

Other stars who drove the revival of corsets included Madonna, who sported a risqué custom-made Givenchy corset at The Grammy Awards in February 2015.

And actress Lily James was photographed wearing a corseted ballgown in promotional shots for the Cinderella movie.
