Department store chain Debenhams intends to open a new store at the proposed £150m extension to Leicester’s Fosse Park, according to local reports.
The company told the Leicester Mercury that it will take one of the main units at the proposed Castle Acres development, planning permission for which has yet been granted by Blaby District Council.
The news comes just days after House of Fraser has closed its store at the Highcross shopping centre in Leicester.
Debenhams’ director of property Robert Hadfield has recently written to planners at Blaby council to make assurances its Castle Acres store would not be a threat to the one it operates already at the shopping centre, the newspaper reported.
He said the company had agreed the main terms of a deal to take up one of the Castle Acres anchor units and were ‘in the hands of solicitors’.
