Footballer David Beckham has confirmed that he is set to follow in his wife’s footsteps with the launch of his own men’s bodywear and faragrance line, called ‘Homme by David Beckham.’
Wife Victoria released and image and tweeted about the line, which Lingerie Insight first reported on in Novemeber 2010 and is tipped for release later this year.
She wrote: “David announced today he is launching his own bodywear range!!! X”
Beckham told WWD: “I have had the idea of doing a bodywear collection for some time now.”
‘The push to do something of my own really came as a result of my collaboration with Armani.’
Beckham was the face of Emporio Armani underwear in 2007. The campaign, which had him appearing on giant billboards and magazine spreads, resulted in a doubling of profits for the Italian company to £38.7m.
It was during his stint modelling for the men’s underwear brand that Beckham spotted a gap in the market for well-cut T-shirts and fitted boxer shorts.
He said: “It proved to me that there is a real market for good-looking, well-made men’s bodywear.”
