The UK lingerie market is now valued at $3.18bn (£2.47bn), according to the latest industry figures from Euromonitor’s Passport database.
The market has grown 0.7% on last year and accounts for 22% of the women’s underwear market in Western Europe, which grew 1.3% in 2016 to exceed $14.3bn (£11bn).
Euromonitor’s analysis of the market covers bras and briefs separates, basques and corsets, camisoles, bodies, slips, suspender belts, garters, shapewear, sports bras and thermals.
Underwear accessories such as lingerie tape or bra inserts are excluded.
As reported by Lingerie Insight in December, Just Style’s Global Market Review of Lingerie estimates that the global lingerie market is valued at $28.57bn, with bras accounting for 55.5% of the sector.
The world briefs market, meanwhile, is valued at $9.90bn. This represents 33.5% of the total lingerie market. In unit terms, briefs sales are 5260m units per year.
