Former giant of the quality warm underwear market, Chilprufe, has become the latest acquisition of the Slenderella brands group.
Following negotiations between the management of Slenderella and representatives of the previous owners of Manchester Hosiery, based in Hinckley, a deal was struck and agreed prior to Christmas 2011.
Slenderella already owns a series of underwear brands, including Slenderella, Brettles, Vedonis, Walker Reid and Gaspém which have expanded in recent years to enjoy success in the UK’s department stores and independent retail sector. 2011 also reportedly saw considerable growth in mail order and internet sales.
The Chilprufe Autumn 2012 collection will feature natural fibres when it is launched at Moda in February. This year’s offer will include four groups of underwear and a selection of pure cotton nightwear.
“The brand will enhance the interest of our export customers and distributors,” said group chairman Gary Spendlove. “The Chilprufe brand is recognised in many countries and will feature in our plans to develop the Far East and American markets.
“The pound being relatively weak has helped us increase export trade to 16% of the company’s turnover with further export growth forecast in 2012. The quality and exclusivity of our collections enables the company to compete favourably with any international competition.”
