Its number of UK active members rose by 26 percent to 1.4 million last year.

Overall group sales, which include contributions from the company’s flagship French operation, increased by 64 percent to £87m last year. Group membership rose by 43 percent to 8.7 million people.

Sven Lung, founder and chairman of BrandAlley Group, said: “The Group achieved a phenomenal period of growth last year in the UK and France despite the wider retail slump. BrandAlley intends to build on this growth which will come through continued member loyalty, new products and further expansion across Europe.”

Lung insists the concept of private sales began in France and said BrandAlley was the first to introduce it to the UK market.

“The strength of this has led to private sales being adopted worldwide by all of the major ecommerce players who are looking at it to increase their traffic and loyalty from members,” he said.
