Bjorn Borg & McEnroe compete for underwear sales

Thirty years after they met in the Wimbledon, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe are set to go head to head again as they compete to see who can sell the most underwear.

Borg, who founded his own fashion label in 1989, has invited McEnroe to collaborate on a new collection, for which the former tennis players will be creating two designs each.

A percentage of the proceeds of the limited-edition range of jersey boxer briefs will go to the John and Patty McEnroe Foundation.

McEnroe said: "I’ve been wearing his underwear for 10 years… Now I finally have a chance to see if my name has any cache below the waist."

The pair, who both says that they ‘hate to lose’ have played each other at tennis a total of 16 times. Borg finally retired from the game at the age of 25, after he lost to McEnroe in the US Open final. He may now be looking to get his own back on his turf.

McEnroe added: "Since it’s his company and his brand, I feel like my back’s against the wall but I was told that I would have an equal opportunity to sell as many as him. This is a two-on-two battle as far as I’m concerned."

Borg and McEnroe are also holding an ebay auction of memorabilia and running a Facebook ‘Perfect Match’ competition, where entrants will be in with a chance to fly to New York to meet the pair.
