Ann Summers trumps Victoria’s Secret in Google search ranking

Ann Summers is the most searched-for lingerie brand in the UK, while Victoria’s Secret enjoys the most social engagement, a new report has revealed.

The Lingerie Market Digital Insight Report, produced by digital marketing specialists Inside Online, ranks 30 of the top UK websites within this competitive retail market.

Ann Summers was searched for 823,000 times per month in the six months to September 2017, according to Inside Online, almost double the number of searches Victoria’s Secret had (450,000).

Lovehoney, Boux Avenue and Bravissimo also made up the top five most searched for lingerie brands online, coming in 3rd, 4th and 5th positions respectively.

But Victoria’s Secret had the highest social score for the six month period, which considers followers and engaged conversations on all major social platforms.

Intimissimi’s UK site came second in this list, followed by Triumph, Yandy and La Senza.

Inside Online also demonstrates which websites have improved their visibility year-on-year compared to the rest of the market.

The best performing retailers included Belle Lingerie, which improved its visibility by 442% on last year, appearing in the search results for lingerie and lingerie-related words 2,129 times, compared to 393 times in 2016.

UK Tights also performed well, improving its visibility 148% and appearing in the search results 4942 times, up from 1991 times in 2016.

The visibility score is assigned to each domain by an SEO tool called Searchmetrics, and refers to the reach of the domain. Searchmetrics looks at selected keywords in the lingerie sector for a given search engine (in this case Google) and analyses the results for them.
