Ann Summers apologised for naming their new line ‘Isis’, which accidentally, and coincidentally is also the name of a terrorist group operating in the Middle East.
As part of a long-term refresh of the brand, the Isis line was a launched in an effort to expand their ready-to-wear offering. Ann Summers has come along way in the last three years, opening new concept stores, launching on eBay and collaborating with renowned fashion designer Giles Deacon on a new collection.
A spokesperson for Ann Summers commented to the Independent: "Range names for our products are chosen far in advance of the collections landing in-stores and online. In this instance, the inspiration behind this range name was taken from the Ancient Egyptian goddess Isis.
"We acknowledge the unfortunate timing of this product launch in our store windows, however we in no way support or condone any act of terrorism or violence. We apologise for any offence caused."
