Amazon UK tops IMRG retail ranking

Amazon UK has claimed the number one spot in a list of the top performing online retailers for the second time this year.

The company, which stocks several lingerie brands, including Gossard, Triumph and Princesse Tam Tam, received the most visits from desktops and laptops in April 2015, according to the latest IMRG Top 50 Retailer Ranking, in association with comScore.

Amazon UK also topped the list, which is published quarterly, in February.

Multichannel retailers performed particularly well during April with a number of high street brands rising in the rankings.

John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and Next all climbed the list compared with April 2014.

The analysis of traffic to UK retail sites revealed that Sainsbury’s dropped six places, while New Look and ASOS were both down five places from April 2014.

However, comScore’s Mobile Metrix data reveals that ASOS is the top apparel retailer based on visits via smartphones and tablets, with Next and New Look taking 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.

Tina Spooner, Chief Information Officer at IMRG said: “The latest retailer ranking reveals that multichannel retailers performed well during April, with around three-quarters of brands that climbed the list having a physical store presence. High street / multichannel retailers also recorded stronger sales growth than pureplay merchants during the same period, with year-on-year growth reaching 15%, compared with 10% for the latter group according to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales index.

"It is interesting that young fashion brands dominate the top 10 apparel smartphone and tablet rankings and, with almost two-thirds of traffic to clothing websites now coming via mobile devices, it is evident that retailers are increasing their investment in mobile optimisation and apps.”
