Amazon has introduced a new lingerie section to its UK site in a bid to widen its fashion offering.
Speculation has arisen over whether the company could be looking to run a ‘slide rule’ over ASOS, with shares for the etail giant reportedly rising five percent on the back of the conjecture.
New Amazon UK chief executive Christopher North told Retail Week that clothing would be a big focus for Amazon this year.
He said: “There’s an enormous opportunity there. We want our site to be the place you come to buy clothing and will be expanding our range.”
Amazon will stock 558 lingerie products on the site, including brands such as Gossard, Wonderbra and Charnos.
