Alice Temperley adds lingerie to John Lewis range

British designer Alice Temperley has added a range of lingerie and nightwear to her Somerset fashion collection available exclusively at John Lewis.

The launch follows the success of the Somerset by Alice Temperley womenswear collection, which became John Lewis’s all-time fastest-selling brand when it entered stores in July 2012.

Fusing vintage and oriental influences, the 23-piece lingerie and nightwear range features Japanese-inspired prints and delicate Austrian lace.

Alice Temperley said: “Lingerie is my next love after clothing; I think it is what is worn underneath that really inspires a woman to feel beautiful in her clothes – that inner, secret glamour.”

“We know that the Somerset woman values beautiful fabric and detail, so I was really happy with the print and lace we have brought into the designs, all in a luxurious silk for an amazing price. It was also fun to play with the sleepwear; the tux is especially nostalgic of the black and white Ginger Rogers movies of my childhood.”

Somerset lingerie comprises silk balconette bra and classic knicker sets and chemises in vintage-inspired lace.

The nightwear collection features masculine tailored silk pyjama top and palazzo pant sets inspired by the iconic ‘Le Smoking’ tuxedo suit created in 1966 by Yves Saint Laurent, along with vintage French boudoir-style camisoles and matching shorts, and an oriental-inspired belted kimono robe.

John Lewis head of womenswear Jo Hooper commented on the launch: “The début lingerie and nightwear collection marks a new chapter in the evolution of the Somerset brand. The collection epitomises Alice’s vintage, eclectic style, combined with her knowledge of what makes women feel special.”

Retail prices start from £75 for a short chemise to £150 for a full pyjama set. Somerset lingerie arrives in stores nationwide and online on 1st October.
