Department store Debenhams has announced Jilly Johnson, 58, as the face of the Reger by Janet Reger Christmas campaign.
Johnson was the first ever model cast by the Janet Reger label, back in the eighties. Thirty years on, retailer has released new shots of her wearing the Reger by Janet Reger label in order to demonstrate that women can ‘look fabulous’ in lingerie, whatever their age.
Debenhams has been pioneering diversity on the high street for the past couple of years, with campaigns which saw disabled models used in national window campaigns, a ban on airbrushing in photography and the use of older models in nationwide marketing activity.
Using Johnson in the Christmas campaign follows in the path of this diversity trail, which most recently saw the launch of ‘The Style List’- an aspirational photography campaign featuring women in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
Reger by Janet Reger founder Aliza Reger said: “I have known Jilly since I was a little girl when I admired her as one of the models for the Janet Reger label.
“It is fantastic to demonstrate to the Reger customer that you can look and feel fabulous in beautiful lingerie no matter what your age.”
Johnson said: “As we get older, there are certain things that leave us lacking in confidence. No longer do we have taut, concave tummies. I’ve got a bit of a jelly-belly, but I don’t know of a woman at my age who doesn’t.
“I was excited but nervous when Aliza asked me to do the shoot for Debenhams. There is a distinct lack of imagery featuring older, more realistic models in the industry, and Aliza and I wanted to show that you don’t have to be in your twenties to look great in lingerie."
